The Hand Crafted Tasting Company is at it again! Following hot on the heels of our winter/spring NYC Craft Beer Festival tasting event and in keeping with our desire to bring the New York area the opportunity to sample the best in seasonal beers, we are proud to announce the Brooklyn Waterfront Craft & Specialty Beer Festival. This summer’s tasting festival will take place outdoors on the Brooklyn waterfront with spectacular views of the Manhattan skyline. The Festival will be located at 5 North 11th Street in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, NY on Saturday, June 16, 2012.
The Brooklyn Waterfront Beer festival is a true celebration of the summer beer experience. We have invited the best craft & specialty brewers from around the globe to come together at one time, in one place, under the waterfront tent, so you can sample a careful selection of the best, and in many cases rare, seasonal summer brews.
VIP ticket holders will be admitted an hour earlier and have access to the beer, the brewers and the food during this first hour with just a limited amount of people. This is a great time to speak with some of your favorite brewers.
A limited number of Connoisseur tickets will be made available. Connoisseurs will also be able to attend the event during its VIP opening hour. In addition they will have an improved, express entrance line and access to the Connoisseurs Lounge for the entire session. The Connoisseurs Lounge is a great place to get away from the crowds. Relax either indoors on our couches or on the outdoor Connoisseur patio overlooking the East River and the Williamsburg Bridge.

WOMEN IN CRAFT
Until around 200 years ago, women ruled the brewing world. Take a look at the Vikings – only women were allowed to brew beer and Norse law decreed that only the ladies could own the brewing equipment. And a survey in 1700’s England found that 78% of licensed brewers were women. Find out how that changed and how women are shaping up the craft beer market once again with a panel of some of NYC’s most influential females in the industry.

Sonya Giacobbe is Co-Owner of Kelso Beer Co. Sonya got her start in the beer industry at the famed Brickskellar in DC, worked briefly giving tours of the Redhook Brewery in Seattle until moving on to the Pyramid Alehouse in Seattle, where she created the staff training program on beer styles. In 2006, she & her husband Kelly opened Kelso & she coined the company’s motto “Beer Helps” to reflect the company’s commitment to helping the community. To date the company has raised over $15,000 for the City Harvest Food banks & partners with such diverse organizations as Blue Hill restaurants & Brooklyn Bowl. When not involved with beer, Sonya is busy raising 2 future brewers. She’s not sure which is more challenging.
Jesse Tabac shadowed the brewmaster at Rocky River Brewing Company, and completed her MBA degree with an internship in marketing at Atlantic Brewing Company. Directly from Maine, she started working for Manhattan Beer Distributors as an On-Premise Sale Representative. She has been Brewery Agent for Greenpoint Beer Works and KelSo Beer since March of 2011.
Olivia Cerio has been working in the craft industry for 5 years, and for the past two years has been an Assistant Brewer at Empire Brewing Company, and in 2012 Olivia became a Brand Manager

URBAN HOME BREWING 101
Think your NYC apartment is too small to try your hand at home brewing? Not so. Find out how easy it is to brew in even the smallest of spaces with Mary Izett, Peter Kennedy, and representatives from Brooklyn Home Brew. They’ll take you through the steps to a tasty homebrew from purchasing supplies to properly serving your final product. This panel will share the secrets of successful urban brewing and even expose the advantages of brewing in the melting pot of America.

Matthew Chan is a homebrewer of over 2 years from Oregon and works for Brooklyn Homebrew. He enjoys brewing Belgian, sour, lagers and historic beers, among others. He sports an un-ironic mustache. You’ll probably see him at some beer event around New York—if you do, ask him about his obsession with extinct English beer styles (especially Burton ales).
Peter Kennedy has been brewing beer for 15 years, spending any free time in his garage, brewing, planning, cleaning, and of course sampling. Homebrewing is his passion, while documenting his road to a professional brewer on SimplyBeer.comwith recipes, tips, and lessons learned. Sharing his love of homebrewing has also lead to the creation of one of the most unique homebrewing competitions, Iron Brewer. Beer is more then just a delicious beverage to him, it is a lifestyle.
